Target Audience: K-12 Educators, Youth Leaders, Resource Specialists, Naturalists, Youth Leaders and other Community Educators
Walking through a forest can bring to our senses smells, sights, sounds, and feelings that most of us don’t get to experience on a daily basis. British Columbians depend on our forests as a clean, fresh place to walk, butalso as a basis for oureconomy, a resource for wood products, a filter for our streams and air, and as a home for many of our province’s indigenous wildlife species.
The Forests in Focus Educator’s Activity Guide features 40 dynamic, hands-on activities and lab-style investigations that explore forest ecology and the different forest ecosystems. Community educators, K-12 educators, resource managers, naturalists and youth leaders will be able to use this guide to teach about BC’s unique forests without needing prior forest experience. Creative forest stories will take you on a journey of learning about British Columbia’s forests and the species found within each. A well laid-out set of appendices features 17 useful resources for teaching about forests including endangered species lists, maps and teaching strategies.
