Project WILD is an interdisciplinary, supplementary environmental and conservation education program for formal and non-formal educators of young people. Project WILD program is delivered through the development and dissemination of classroom ready teaching aids. The goal of Project WILD is to assist learners of any age in developing awareness, knowledge, skills, and commitment to result in informed decisions, responsible behaviour and constructive action concerning wildlife and the environment upon which all life depends. Although the primary audience of the program is educators, it is equally useful for anyone involved in teaching others in formal or informal educational settings.
The activity guide consists of 121 activities that support key concepts under the following themes:
- Awareness and Appreciation
- Diversity of Wildlife Values
- Ecological Principles
- Management and Conservation
- People, Culture and Wildlife
- Trends, Issues and Consequences
- Responsible Human Actions
The Project WILD Activity Guides are designed to emphasize concepts and skills and are based on sound principles of teaching and learning theory. The activities are varied to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students and educators. Project WILD materials are used indoors or outdoors and include a mix of activities for independent exploration, cooperative learning, and full group instruction. Materials are appropriate for use by formal classroom teachers as well as by people who work with and teach youth outside the formal classroom setting.
Project WILD activities are designed to be used singly, sequentially, or in clusters. Each Project WILD activity lists instructional objectives and specifies the intended learner outcomes. Each activity has been classroom tested and evaluated to ensure that the activity actually accomplishes its stated objectives.
